Northwood Travelled to County Hall, a new ground for all of the team. We were lead to believe that this was not one of the better grounds to play on. However, when we got there we were pleasantly surprised. Whilst the outfield looked parched through lack of water, despite Thursday's rain, the wickets looked in good order, if a little green in places.

Again the team was not at full strength but had a combination of old and young heads. Noachie in charge in Goodspons absence lost the toss and surprisingly CH elected to bat. The wicket looked green from one end, and dry from the other, suggesting it was two paced and would do something, which we soon found out it did. Noachie and Jims opened the bowling and after a slow opening partnership, Jims caught one opener in front for the first LBW of the games (there were to be 6). Dad Steve dropped one that he admitted Shelley would have easily poached, followed by Noachie bowling the number 3 off the inside edge. No 5, the captain was caught by Steve Huss behind the wicket and CH were 41 for 4. Things looked rosy. However, a big partnership began between no 4 and the large muscle bound no 6 who proceeded to play some big shots to take the score up to 81. Gobbo dropped a routine catch off the no 4 at second slip off Noachie which did nothing to improve his mood and nor did it moments later when Gobbo came on to trap him LBW.

The play of the day came about when the burly no 6 got underneath one to sky the hugest highest biggest skiers you have ever seen. Several helicopters, crows and airplanes were in trouble and Andy Nick making his return to cricket tried to get underneath it but just failed to get under what would have been the catch of the season, before Nuss picked the ball up, threw it to Noachie at the bowlers end who then ran out no 7 with a direct hit at the keepers end, a triple play The New York Yankees would have been proud of.

The turning point of their innigns was when the nurly number 6 was caught by Ram fielding at Long off. He ran in and took the tracer bullet cleanly to dismiss a dangerous player. Ali Kahn then took one of the most laid back catches at extra cover as the next batman tried to cream Gobbo over the top, and Max trapped the number 10 LBW before Jims finished things off with a catch by Gobbo at second slip. 141 all out in 40 overs, a huge improvement on previous efforts.

Tea was then taken, with Ali Khan chomping at the bit to go in at 1. Noachie who had been opening in previous weeks was happy to allow this and Ali and Nuss strolled to the wicket as the weather looked to turn for the worse. However, it sprinkled a bit on the wicket but not more than that. CH opened with reasonable pace but Ali and Nuss dealt with this with ease. Ali was in a destructive mood and anything up to him was despatched with little circumspection and got us off to a great start He was actually sledged by CH's number 6 who, as one of his own players pointed out, did exactly the same thing. Nuss at the played a couple of sumptuous cover drives and flicks round the corner and things looked rosy at 72 for 0 off 12 overs. However, both soon departed LBW on 33 and 32 respectively but the back of the innings was broken. Sadly Reevo, Gobbo and Aleem did not hang around long and at 89 for 5, the alarm bells were sounding. The domino effect was in full swing.

Gobbo was himself very disappointed as he had failed to get his new bat going. After sleeping with it the night before, he hoped for better things. However, he spooned two shots in the air and was caught on the second one. Maybe the love affair is over. Aleem too hit the ball in the air and was caught.

This brought Lewis to the crease and together with Noachie showed there is nothing like experience at the crease as they kept out everything the opposition threw at them, Noachie finishing on 33 and Lewis 20 both not out.

An excellent improvement on previous weeks which showed with a bit of grit and determination what can be achieved. More this week
