Frogmore v Northwood Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 19 May 2012 at 1:00
Northwood Cricket Club Lost lost by 10 wkts

Match report After a sticky wicket last week at Pirton, the 3rd's were looking for inspiration, wisdom and a renewed sense of purpose at Frogmore.. and well.. um..how do I put this.. we're still looking I'm afraid!! The strip was not the stodge of the previous week but still dreadfully slow and low! Dicko's first decision of the day was taken out of his hands by losing the loss which meant their captain had great delight in inserting us! And so Mendelsohn and Ward stepped out, and at first all seemed well when our very own actuary consultant [at least I think that's what he does], whipped a low short one to the fine leg boundary! However, it was not long before the wickets started tumbling, first with Wardy chopping on and then Khurram, Mandar and even Rumpers hearing the death rattle! The ball that got Rumpers was described as a boomerang just in case you're scratching your heads and wondering how any mortal bowler could penetrate the ring of steel that is his forward defence shot! Anyway it was only Legge and Blommers that added any semblance of credibility by batting out the overs and making sure we were not all waiting for the tea ladies to arrive!!
Not even the spirit of Great Gaddesden.. [11th July 2009.. in case you had forgotten], could lift us from the slumber of a total of 72 all out. I could say that the oppo got the runs without loss in 15 overs, and leave it at that... but that would not do justice to the probing bowling of Khurram and Reevo.... both of whom deserved wickets, as did Rumpers who took exception to the fine array of shots that their leftie produced including putting the ball over his head for four in quick succession. The only glimmer of a point came when their leftie went for the IPL cow corner maximum... the ball launched itself in the direction of Mandar on the boundary.. at last Rumpers thought.... here is redemption.. here is where the fightback begins...... the ball swirled this way and that under a grey leaden sky... Mandar focussed like a tiger on its prey... running forward with his safe pair of hands.... but alas it never rains it pours.. and on our way back to Northwood .. how we wished it had!!
In case you're wondering how bad it can get for the 3rd's, do not fear.... our great leader has taken measures to raise our game by arranging an extra net practice this Thursday before the next battle ensues, so in the words of Henry V to his men before Agincourt...That he which hath no stomach to this fight, Let him depart........ But we in it shall be remembered- We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!!
