Match report U15 League Northwood U15a 96-8 (15) lost to Stanmore U15a 99-5 (14.4) by 5 wickets

A game that showed NCC have a lot of talent and potential and were on top for various periods, but that 2 or 3 bad 2-3 over spells can prove crucial at this level.

We started almost perfectly with James (19) and Charlie (20) putting on 47 in 6 overs. However we then surrendered the initiative in tentative fashion, before Kabir (19) and crowd favourite Gurman (16) gave us something to bowl at, before excellent Stanmore death bowling prevented us from getting what had seemed a likely and probably match-winning 110.

Stanmore chased sensibly until we improved our bowling standards, most notably Ben (2-19) and Gurman (1-14) backed up by James and Josh. A mini-collapse including (as every good collapse should) run outs gave us hope but Stanmore got home with 2 balls to spare.

A disappointing result, but one to certainly take a lot of learning points from. Most notably we didn’t run around 8-10 runs we should have while Stanmore were almost tip and run and ran around 15 singles more or less straight to fielders. We need to try and get into a mindset in the last few overs that the default is to run and only exceptionally not to run.

2 tough games next week at Uxbridge & Eastcote, but ones we should be looking forward to.
