Northwood Cricket Club 1st XI v Old Albanian on Sat 22 Aug 2009 at 1:00
Northwood Cricket Club Won NCC got 30 points

Match report Northwood recorded a 2nd straight win on Saturday vs mid table Old Albanians to dispel any thoughts of relegation and a move to the security of 13th place in Div2.
Batting first on a very dry looking wicket Danny Rodgers and Tom Brockton looked to get the home side off to a positive start and Rodgers took this literally crashing the first three balls of the game to the boundary for 4. He was very unfortunate to be given out LBW for 12 with the ball heading way down the leg side. Brockers got off the mark with two crunching extra cover drives and Rossco, new to the crease at No3 also looked to bat in a positive fashion with two clips through the on-side for 4. Northwood 45-1 off 5 overs. Old Albanians West Indian overseas player was introduced to the attack, and those that played last season will remember his 5 wicket haul, plus a quick fire 60. Positive news was that he seemed to have lost quite a bit of pace, but still tried to bounce Brockers out who hooked him through square leg for 4 after exchanging some verbal's regarding his tactics.
The game began to change with the introduction of Old A's spin attack, Brockers went for 38, adjudged caught at bat pad, Richard Wise was also quickly on his way falling to a good catch at first slip and when Rossco was out to the most unfortunate of all dismissals (run out backing up) for an excellent 49 the home side had slumped to 120-4.
Paul "Gobbo / Hob Goblin / Fag Butt / Tripod etc etc etc" Richardson (28) and the returning Richard Murphy (27) both struck some lusty blows in a partnership of almost 50, and pushed the field out to allow plenty of singles for Sam "Colonel" Thurgood to continue this good approach with a controlled 21 off 27 balls. The piaster résistance was supplied by no other than Ronnie Patel who played the shot of the day off the back foot drive through extra cover. However wickets continued to tumble with Ash Dhamatangue, Rob Reeve and Patel all falling and after 43.3 overs NCC were bowled out for 219.
There had been a monumental mix up regarding tea, so some quick thinking from Raz Wise meant that a trip to Waitrose resulted in an impressive spread for everyone to enjoy - good work Razzle!
Reggie and Gobbo opened the bowling and Gobbo was immediately rewarded when Old A's skipper tried to loft him over the top only to be caught by the Colonel back-peddling at extra cover in the first over. Reggie was also quickly into his stride, but not before Ash dropped something of a sitter off the "show pony" of the Old A's team when he was in his early twenties. Gobbo finished with 2-45 off 12 overs and Ash was introduced into the attack with Old A's struggling at 57-3 but with Reggie bowling a line that was too wide it was important that the home side kept up the early impetuous given to them by the Gobbster.
Some stern words from Danny did the trick and Reggie was back on track picking up the wicket of the "show pony" for a rather ugly 65 and Ash (1-28 off 10 overs) then took the prize wicket of the Old A's overseas player courtesy of a sharp catch from DPR himself. With wickets tumbling the Old A's players decided the aerial route was the way to go and Rob Reeve hung onto drilled on drive to leave the away side in dire straits at 130-7. Reggie took his fourth and then fifth wickets to end on 97 for the season as another two suspect LBWs were given, this time in Northwood's favour, and despite Ronnie Patel dropping a easy chance at point the match was ended when a mix up from Preest and Jones resulted in both batsmen bring at the keepers end! Raz Wise, cool as a cucumber threw the ball to Gobbo who whipped off the bails to bowl out Old Albanians for 166 and give Northwood a well deserved 53 run victory.
A winning return for Murph, who already started he doesn’t get out of bed for less than 30 points and 90 points for the club in total - victories for all XI's for the first time this season!
Well played chaps! Cockfosters and Kings Langley the remaining league fixtures, two wins will get us closer to where we should be come the end of the season.
