Northwood Cricket Club Under 10A v Hayes on Sun 29 Jun 2014 at 10.00
Northwood Cricket Club Won

Match report Northwood faced Hayes who boasted a couple of district players and we had been warned that they would be a tough challenge. Kabir won the toss and elected to field first as has been our usual choice. Kabir and Sarge opened the bowling with Ben Pace Man Sarge starting with an accurate maiden over. Kabir was expensive leaking 11 runs from his overs (not much really!!) Then The Enforcer Sam showed how to bowl full and straight at the opposition’s captain who played across the line and was bowled. Another wicket in the 8th over put us in charge. At the half way stage they were 224. The remainder of the bowlers then all conceded only 3 or 4 an over in the second half taking wickets along the way. Sabarish bowled a maiden with two wickets coming from it. Hayes finished up on 219 at the end of their 16 overs. Kabir dropped one only to run the guy out as they thought they could nick a single at the same time.
All the bowlers bowled well and ground fielding was great. Not much got passed us but we moved our fielders around well although a couple of catches went down.
We had however been warned that their bowling would be better than their batting which it was. However, they had not realised how stout our resistance would be and with Ben Pace Man Sergeant and Sam The Enforcer Pragnell opening up they put on 11 for the first pair for no wickets. Jashanveer Birah and Chris Silent but Deadly Hudson came in. Unfortunately we lost a couple of wickets. Jash being stumped when warned several times that the wicket keeper was always trying to run you out if you walk out of the crease but the batsman award best one was Chris cool hand Hudson who was bowled. He then showed great calmness in hitting the captain for a great shot to the boundary followed by a quick single to cancel out his lost wicket. 14 were added here for this pair. Tyler “where am I going to get hit this week” Pearce and Matt Safe Hands Crow showed the benefit of not getting out with dead bat Tyler batting out a maiden whilst getting his usual hit somewhere on the body. This time on his gloves. He showed that you don’t have to hit every ball for four…. Hope some of you others read and take this in!
This meant that when Kabir and Sabarish went in we were level on runs.
Kabir then hit 10 and Sabarish 5 including 3 fours but in the last over with only 14 ahead and 3 balls “Run a ball” Kabir tried to hit another boundary but was bowled by a straight one. Not the best of shots. However, the pair took us home with 235 for the loss of only 4 wickets.
It was a great performance against a supposed stronger team. Maybe they had some better players but what we have shown is that we are a team. Playing for each other, backing up in the field and batting well as pairs. Just take out the wides and the poor shots. We are three short out of the squad of 9 next week so a couple will come up from the second team. Those playing will have to step up to the plate and perform again. Here’s to another win next week.
