Match report U13 League Northwood 134-6 (20) lost to Bessborough 136-7 (20) by 3 wickets

This was an excellent game of ‘maybes’ and ‘if onlys’…..With 2 boys ill and 1 strumming the guitar, we had to re-jig the batting order to give it some depth and did really well to post 134. Manav (45) judged his opener’s role to perfection with Ben (23) and Charlie (35*) both showing real quality on a good pitch and lightning fast outfield, and a late cameo by Raj. 135 was about par.

Manav does what Manav does, with 0-6 off 4 giving him composite 6-24 off his last 16 overs. But the 2 quality Bessborough openers took advantage of some looser bowling to post 70 off 9 overs. James (3-19) continued his much-improved bowling form and broke the partnership with his first ball and wickets started to tumble with 2 to Ben in the 17th over. Harry was also steady. But the Bessborough lower middle order kept their nerve and steered their team home.

Hard as it is to take, much more will have been learnt than in a 50 run win. Our fielding generally held up well. But we were a bowler or two light on the day.
