Match report U15 Cup Northwood 96-5 (20) lost to Stanmore 97-9 (20) by 1 wicket

This was a game of 101 ‘if onlys’……if only we had accelerated with the bat with wickets in hand…..if only they hadn’t had 4 impressive and varied spinners……if only we hadn’t let through 5 or 6 fours we might have stopped…..if only we had DRS for the last ball LBW appeal….and so on

We started extremely positively with James (30) and Manav (20) using the pace of the opening bowlers to great effect, and it looked like 130 was well within reach. However we got stuck against the spinners, and in fact no seam was bowled after the first 4 overs. Kabir (17) was not at his most fluent but a couple of late boundaries from Charlie (11*) at least gave respectability.

It took us a long time to get going with the ball, and the game looked gone, until Ben, with fire in his belly produced a corker with his first ball. Amey (2-15) and Tyler (1-12) were right on it, and James (1-15) looked dangerous with his spin. From 73-2 wickets started to fall regularly with Ben being thin-edged for 4 on his hat-trick delivery, finishing with 4-19. With 2 needed off 2 balls, 2 scrambled leg byes saw Stanmore home in an excellent game of cricket

Probably the biggest if only was the 24 extras we conceded against 11…………on to Thursday and a trip to Hayes
