Northwood Cricket Club 1st XI v Abbots Langley on Sat 11 Jun 2011 at 1:00
Northwood Cricket Club Won

Match report Result: Won

Northwood faced their old rivals Abbots Langley who before the game were lower than us in the table. This was a must win game for Northwood. Dave Carlisle took one look at the wicket and invited Northwood to bat first. Northwood (or rather Danny Rodgers) raced to 29 off the first three overs as Abbots young opening bowlers gave him plenty to hit away. However, once Nuss had departed LBW again for 5, the runs dried up as Abbots found their length.
However when Noachie joined Danny at the crease the runs started to pile on. Both punished the bad ball and Noachie hit two big sixes on his way to 47 before he was adjudged LBW when he might have got a faint nick. They had added 105 for the third wicket. Now 151 for 3, Danny completed his 110 in great style as Ali Khan, Gobbo, Goodspons and Razzle came and went without adding a great deal to the score, Gobbo’s new bat doesn’t seem to be doing what he wants of it yet as he was bowled by Abbots young spinner. Goodspons was caught on the boundary by Carly as was Ali and Raz played one of the strangest short innings as he tried to add to the total. Steve Huss and Umar played out the last two overs.

Abbots bowled and fielded well. They pegged Northwood back from 9 an over to under three as Northwood struggled to get runs. However a huge innings from Danny assisted by Noachie helped Northwood to their total.

Abbots started very well but the boys probably had too much of Judy Knowles tea. Inglis opened the batting with Craig Smith trying to use just the off side of the pitch. Inglis punished everything short and full. Jims caught Craig in an excellent caught and bowled and Parker departed first ball caught behind. Barry Warner faced the hattrick ball with Northwood crowded round the bat. And just managed to keep out Jim’s next ball. Noachie then had a huge appeal for caught behind that all the slips, point, mid off, mid on and square leg all went up for. Even Steve Huss went up for it and he only goes up for it when he knows it is out. However the man in charge felt not, nor did the batsman. Next ball he tried to take a single to Stewie and a fatal hesitation mid wicket and shades of Redbourn, Stewie threw down the stumps to run the Aussie out by a yard. Cue celebrations as he looked like being the danger man.

59 for three and Northwood were buzzing. Keeper Read came and went, but Mehta hung around with Barry who proceeded to hit everything up to him for 4. He got to his 50 by hitting a loose delivery from Umar for 4 only to be deceived in the flight and was bowled by Umar next ball for 52. Abbots youngsters then imploded as first Mehta was caught by a nonchalant Ali Khan at midwicket, followed by Metcalf stumped by Stuss walking down the wicket, and Parkin caught by a diving Lewis at Long off.

Dave Carly mysteriously down at number 10, hit a couple of shots only to sky one for Nuss to snaffle at long off. Nuss’s first catch this year. The last wicket put on 22 for Abbbots to gain a point before they were bowled out for 141.

An excellent performance from Northwood. Some may say one man was the difference and Northwood may not have scored 200 but Northwood’s bowling and fielding was excellent and everything caught. Noachie was also in fine form outscoring Danny at the time. Still 30 points and three wins on the spin. No one can remember the last time that happened and now midtable. However, we must not let complacency set in. Still a long season to go.
