Northwood Town v Northwood Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 04 Jul 2009 at 1:00
Northwood Cricket Club Won NCC got sweet 30 points

Match report
Northwood took the long trip to Chestnut Avenue to face the old enemy Northwood Town. With a strong team out again, Northwood were eager to continue the good form shown the previous week. A pre match chat with Raj Ahluwali confirmed that they were strong this week with most of their first team playing.

Raj won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket that looked nice and straw coloured but which seemed a bit spongy after the week’s rain. Noachie opened coming down hill from the houses end with good pace, only to see the ball going back over his head hitting the house behind him from a monster hit from Van E. Third ball went for four too as Van E seemed determined to score runs quickly.

However, at the other end Jack Mendelssohn bowling for the first time for the firsts, was quickly on the money and bowled Heaney round his legs followed by bowling the dangerous Van E for a quickfire 30. This brought the dangerous Lee to the wicket who batted very patiently on the slow wicket.

Noachie was soon in the wickets and had Costard LBW although he didn’t seem best pleased with the decision. Doling followed again LBW to Mendelburger before Captain Raj came to the crease, nursing a broken finger. A full length diving one handed left hand catch from Raz had Raj returning to the pavilion. (one step to his left would have pouched it with two hands).

Noachie then turned to spin with Raj Latchman also with broken fingers (torn knee ligaments twisted ankle standing on the ball, liver on the pickled side) and Rossco down the hill. Raj was unhittable bowling 9 overs 7 maidens 2 for 5 as he had Mushraf caught on the boundary third juggle by the Colonel followed by Lee being caught at mid off by Raz for a patient 40. Rossco got two straight LBWs before Newman unluckily played on. Northwood Town were all out for 102.

Small totals are often harder to get to than larger ones. However Danny Rodgers was intent on not letting this happen as he hit Bushnell’s first ball for four through midwicket, second straight four through wide mid off and last ball for six over mid wicket. He continued in that vein before being caught and bowled for 33 with the back of the total broken at 48-1. Brockers was his usual patient self but he and Nuss struggled a bit with the pace and bounce of the pitch and some accurate bowling from Kasim and Van E.

With the total in sight, both Brokers and Nuss perished with poor shots before Raz and Noachie led us home for the loss of only 3 wickets. Another 30 points. A satisfying win in the local derby for Northwood, in a game played in an excellent spirit.

Post match celebrations included Death for Brokers for his "misdemeanor" last Sunday, barbeque by Mobo and a July 4th firework display arranged by Chuck with some excellent pyrotechnics.
