Match report U13 League Northwood 72-6 (20) lost to Eastcote 104-5 (20) by 32 runs

Eastcote showed why they are the dominant force in local colts cricket by comfortably defending what was a better score than it looked on a very slow and low wicket. Northwood started well in the field with Manav Khindri exemplary again with 3-8 off 4 overs one courtesy of a good catch by James. After losing our way somewhat in the middle overs we fought back well with Charlie Harrison and Ben Sargeant - probably the best of our other bowlers - taking a wicket apiece. Batting-wise we never got going, as the bad balls never came and we struggled to score off the good ones. James made 14 and Kabir a run a ball 18, and while they were together there was some hope. But with Harry not fit to bat and missing a couple, no else really got going, indeed Kabir’s three fours were our only boundaries. To be fair a couple of years ago we wouldn’t have given Eastcote any sort of game and here we competed well in patches. Main lessons are consistency of line and length bowling and foot movement (forward if in doubt) batting

This completes the first half of fixtures and we have 2 friendlies next week to show what we have learnt from the games to date. Given our respective home (PLD 4 L4) and away (PLD 2 W2) records, maybe it is as well that we have 3 away games out of 5 to come.
