Match report U13 League Northwood 122-7 (20) lost to Eastcote 124-1 (16.4) by 9 wickets

This was a game where we were decidedly second best for all but a joyous half hour interlude…..Playing on the astro pitch, Eastcote’s bowling was fast and well-directed and we subsided to 25-5 with some injudicious shots and the inevitable run-out that is the feature of all good collapses. Ben and Harry staged a mini-recovery but at 60-7 off 14 we were looking at 85-90 at best. However William Robinson had other ideas! With little batting form to speak off, he batted absolutely majestically from ball 1 with by far the best striking of a ball seen from a Northwood u13 this season, with the highlights being 2 huge 6s onto the pavilion roof. The crowd came to life in carnival fashion. He ended up on 43* off 17 balls but his innings wouldn’t have been possible without Ben’s application and common-sense at the other end, ending up on 32*

We initially restricted Eastcote well and a wicket for William but found bowling up the hill to be very difficult and the batsmen hit some great shots. Our fielding was patchy – some great stops but some soft boundaries. James posed some problems with his legspin for a while but defeat came with over 3 overs to spare.

Eastcote’s quality are what we strive for and the boys will learn so much more than in a big win against inferior opposition.
