Match report A bizarre game where a seemingly benign pitch and latterly a wet ball still produced a low scoring thriller. With a very slow outfield, 105 was probably par and with James (17) and Charlie (26) showing good intent, at 49-1 off 10 we looked on for at least that. However we then found various ways to get out to their spinners despite quite a few bad balls on offer, and subsided to a very disappointing 83.

A fired-up Gurman was straight and full, and 3 wickets from him and one from the ever-reliable Sab put us in front with Harrow 25-4. Ben then continued the full and straight theme with 3 wickets of his own, and at 34-6 and then 51-7 we were definite favourites, despite almost half these runs being from extras and 3 catchable catches going down as well. However no one else could find their rhythm in the damp conditions and the Harrow no 7 and 9 played both skilfully and sensibly to get them over the line.

Almost certainly this is the last u17 game – if so, I would like to compliment the boys on their efforts, their team spirit and attitude, and for being a great bunch to work with. They need work hard in the nets to fine-tune technique to bring some of their effervescence into Herts league and CVL games and the performances they crave will start to come.
