Match report
Northwood travelled to Old Albanians first team at Woollams Playing fields. Looking at the wicket several seasoned campaigners in the team said the wicket looked like an absolute road.

Unfortunately that was far from the case aa the ball started going through the top. Matt Akroyd would have had the chain saw in evidence batting on that track although the bounce was slow!!

Winning the toss on a hot sultry day Danny decided to bat first. After hitting two sumptuous 4s he fell to OAs 13 year old pacy opening bowler. Nuss soon followed bowled by a leg stump yorker but Goosh and Richard Brooker making his debut for the seconds at the ripe old age of 50 finally dug in to get the score up to 73.

However Richard was well caught for 30

when we needed him to push on. Goosh also perished on 34 when going well but our middle order fell to their disciplined attack. It took the tail to put on 40 at the end with 14 year old Zack Brooker making his second team debut getting 14 to inch us up to 159 with spin twin Akshay Rana (7) at the end of the 50 overs.

If we were disciplined in our bowling and fielding we felt this was a defendable total. Zack opened the bowling and soon took care of the OAs opener with a cracker. Kevon Ganga took care of a decent looking number 3 but this left OAs keeper at the other end. He made Rumpers look like the Ricky Ponting he idolise as he nudged and dead batted it around accumulating a single every 4th over. But he did a job.

Akers came on to bowl but could not quite find the accuracy the wicket demanded

and it was left to veteran Nuss to come on and bowl his floaters to remove the fluid number 4 but then made the mistake of teasing a leading edge out of the keeper.

This brought in the OAs Iqbal who proceeded to chance his arm punishing anything wayward. Danny as a last resort brought on Richard Brooker to tighten things up but this had the opposite effect as he leaked runs from his two overs.

Old Albanians managed to win by 5 wickets but it was one the Northwood let slip away. Nice showers though. The hot water might just have come through by now. And in the bar we won 10 nil plus our umpire. Good to see Northwood retains its ideals off the pitch. Work to do on the pitch!!
